Pulsing Xenia Shrinking
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:21:18 PM »
I have a large colony of Pulsing Xenia that has been in my tank for 6 months and has been doing great it was getting huge and some stalks had detached to other rocks. But lately it seems to be shrinking and the stalks seem to be lifting off the rock and one f the stalks that transferred to another rock is gone. Is this normal? Nothing in my tank has changed all water paramaters are good. Just wondering. Thx

Sometimes xenia will melt away for no reason. No one knows why.  Hopefully it'll recover.

xenia is sort of an odd duck like that.  sometimes it will just randomly seem to do poorly for a while.  generally it bounces back.  i wouldnt worry about it too much.

Have you changed anything about your tank in the last week or two?  Most especially flow and or lighting? Mine like my low flow tank,  and really like the high  t-5 lighting.

Try adding some Seachem Reef Plus.  That might perk them up.

Its available at aquarium shoppe, or was a couple yrs ago. Kinda pricey..$18? For an eyedropper, but it will last forever. Use it according to the directions.

As with everything you should read up on what you add to your tank and figure out why you are adding it. When I put iodine in my tank it was 2 drop once a week for a 55 gal set up.

i believe the box says 1 drop per 25g of water, so 2drops in a 55g would be right on.  you do NOT want to overdose
